I liked the most recent article where he talks about his excellent skills at being a mechanic and then goes on to detail that he clearly knows nothing about a CV joint or welding.

All of this work and he still hasn’t addressed the leaking injector(s) on the motor.  Weird.

I assume you’re talking about the FP redesign, and FWIW it looks fine on a desktop.

He’s just so young... some stuff he’s a complete savant about.  And, some stuff?  Not so much.

I definitely didn’t call my skills excellent. But I did refer to myself as foolish and stupid multiple times.

Apparently not enough times!

I don’t think you’re foolish at all. You are living life as you want and having a bunch of great adventures a nd that is awfully admirable.

I do worry about your mechanical skills and especially your welding. It always looks like it needs more heat.

I will say that the Caravan project is far more interesting than the jeep projects. Good luck and be safe.

Thank you.

This part sees super low loads, so even a couple of small tacks would have done the job. My gobs of booger-welds were overkill.

But I agree, my welding skills aren’t there . Enough for basic stuff, and I’d argue even good enough for simple 1/8" frame section repair, but nothing thin and definitely nothing that has to look pretty.

The CV joint thing was just a flub. :/

You got a lot more balls than I had at your age, or now for that matter, and I think it raises some jealousy in me. I applaud anyone who has the stones to simply go and do it instead of finding a bunch of reasons not to. While I don’t always agree with your means or methods, I can’t help but to be impressed by your ability to wade in and get things done. I miss those opportunities and adventures and they get harder to take the older you get. Have fun.

Give em hell at the TUV.

Thank you Sovande.

My biggest concern is my lower engine torque mount (motor mount). Finding chassis parts isn’t hard, since they made these vans in the U.S.. And finding engine parts isn’t hard, either, since this VM Motori motor could be found in all sorts of vehicles.

But finding engine parts specific to this chassis? So difficult!

My lower engine mount is cracked, and if TÜ V sees this, it may not go well. We shall see!

I relate to his experiences and skill very much. I know more than the average human, but still have eons to go before I consider myself anything of an expert. It’s great to see other people make mistakes, own up, improvise, and find other ways to get the job done.
